Staging Your Home For Success

Selling your home comes with a long list of to do items, but one that I suggest to be a very high priority is staging. Staging allows your home to be presented in away that is appealing to buyers. Potential buyers want to be able to walk into a home and envision their lives there, complete with their furniture and personal belongings. Whether you are currently living in the house or have already moved to your new place, it’s really hard to look beyond all the stuff that may be left out. So here are three helpful tips for maximizing your potential to get the best deal/ to get your house ready to go on the market

Home Staging Roadmap

Get rid of clutter. There’s no sense in moving unnecessary items just to throw them away when you get to your final destination. Take some time before the madness of moving to eliminate the rummage; think clear counter tops, de-cluttered drawers, organized pantry and tidy closets. When people are coming through your house, you want to think that less is more!

One easy tip is storing some of your less used items in a garment moving box. It’s a quick and easy step to leave your clothes on the hangers and pack them so they are ready to go. Here’s a favorite of mine for storage; https://amzn.to/2E50nVa

Depersonalize. As beautiful as your wedding photos and pictures from your kiddos’ birthday parties are, it makes the house very specific to your and your family. Since you’re going to be moving them to the new place anyways, might as well get a jump on packing. Wrap them to get ready to go and replace with decorative ones that match the furniture and aesthetic of your house. Some of my favorite go to places for beautiful and inexpensive canvases are Ross, Homegoods and TJ Maxx. Or if you’re looking online, Wayfair has some great options as well; https://bit.ly/2wWtkO7

You can find great deals without breaking the bank, all while leaving your house feeling cozy. It might even inspire a fresh new look for your new place!

Keep it clean and fresh. If you’re still living in the house, make sure to keep the sinks and countertops clean when you leave for the day. Keep all your clothes confined to hampers and closets, instead of being left on the floor. If you have kiddos, this Amazon find (https://amzn.to/2UUvJDv) might be the perfect solution for keeping toys organized every day, not just through the moving process.

Keeping things organized is crucial in case a showing that needs to happen while you’re at work; you want to make sure that the house is neat and tidy. If you have already moved, it’s important to open the windows for a little bit each week so the home stays smelling fresh.

Where do I start?

To all the sellers out there, make sure that you are working with an agent that understands the importance of staging. Stats show that staging your home decreases the time spent on market, which then increases your chances of getting an offer close to the listing price. There are companies and agents that can either work with your existing furniture if you’re still living there, or bring in staging furniture after you move out. There are plenty of options out there to insure that you get top dollar for your home. If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to reach out. Staging and decorating is one of my all time favorite things to do, and I would love to help however I can.
